Woodlawn Methodist Church

Bardstown United Methodist Church
Bardstown United Methodist Church will have a free Easter egg hunt for ages 0 to 12 years old at its second campus location, 5100 Louisville Road in Bardstown noon-2 p.m. Saturday, April 1. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. There will be a bounce house, food and drinks, and the Easter bunny will ride in on a motorcycle. There will be 10 bike giveaways as well as 10 bibles and lots of eggs to find. The egg hunt will be divided into age groups, 0-4, 5-8 and 9-12 years old with their own field to hunt.
Nazareth Easter Egg Hunt
Join the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth for a free community Easter Egg Hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Nazareth Motherhouse Campus. Egg Hunt times are 11:30 a.m. to noon for ages 0-3; 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. for ages 4-6; and 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for ages 7-10. Take your own photos with the Easter Bunny and enjoy free face painting. Food will also be available for purchase. Pre-register at nazareth.org.

River Cities Concert Band
The River Cities Concert Band will be presenting a program of Broadway show tunes and popular music on Monday, March 27, at 7 p.m. This free concert is presented as part of the Stephen Foster Music Club’s monthly winter concert series in the fellowship hall of Bardstown Baptist Church, located at the corner of West Brashear and North Third Street. Enter the church from the rear parking lot. The hour-long program will feature Broadway show tunes and musical highlights of some popular music spanning 100 years. Designed to be a walk down memory lane that inspires the imagination, the program will be lively and appeal to all ages. Open to the public.

City of New Haven
The city of New Haven will have an Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 8, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at New Haven City Park. The hunt will begin at noon. There will be free refreshments, door prizes, bounce houses, emergency vehicles, face painting, crafts, 4,000 eggs to hunt and the Easter bunny will be visiting.
Bardstown Parks and Recreation Center
Bardstown Parks and Recreation Center will have an Easter egg hunt 10 a.m. April 8, at the Recreation Center, 116 N. Fifth St. The event is free for kids 12 and under with surprise eggs, coloring contest and the Easter bunny. Bring your own basket. Ky. Black Caucus to have political forum
The Kentucky Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials is a nonpartisan organization composed of members with a wide range of political views. In an effort to improve the overall understanding of the various candidates KBC-LEO has decided to host a primary election candidate forum. This forum is open to our members, the general public, and media representatives. KBC-LEO announces the following Political Forum for the primary: April 17, at 6 p.m. at Kentucky State University, Bradford Hall Auditorium. Candidates will be asked to provide a concise text that will be included in the Forum’s agenda and given to each attendee. Unlike previous local forums, questions will be asked by the moderator who will receive the actual questions just prior to the start of the event. No one will have the questions in advance. A grief support class, “Comforting Your Heart with God’s Heart, will be 6:30 p.m. at Wickland Baptist Church, 510 Bloomfield Road in Bardstown on Thursdays, April 20 and May 25, sponsored by Hospice of Nelson County and led by Chaplain Ray Johnson. 2023 Congressional Art Competition
Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced the start of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Kentucky’s Second District. All high school students who enjoy creating art are encouraged to participate. Students have three options to submit artwork to Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green District office by the deadline of April 14, 2023. Artwork can be shipped to or dropped off at Congressman Guthrie’s District office at: Congressman Brett Guthrie, Attention: 2023 Art Competition, 996 Wilkinson Trace, Suite B2, Bowling Green, KY 42103. Knights of Columbus food drive
The Bardstown Knights of Columbus, Council 1290, will be holding their Annual “40 Cans For Lent” Food Drive, through Easter Sunday, April 9. The drive is held annually, to honor our deceased knights and to benefit the Food Insecure in Nelson County, through the auspices of St. Vincent de Paul, Bread For Life Food Pantry. Collection bins for packaged food, will be placed in the rear of churches and under the overhang of the Bardstown Fire Dept., located at 5th Street and Broadway. Monetary contributions are particularly appreciated, since every dollar allows five pounds of food to be purchased through the Feeding America Program.
Monetary donations can be mailed or dropped off, at Knights of Columbus, 107 N. Fourth St., Bardstown, KY 40004. Make checks payable to Knights of Columbus and notate “food Drive” on your check.
Master Gardeners scholarship
The Kentucky Home Extension Master Gardeners Association is once again pleased to offer scholarship opportunities for our Nelson County area senior high school and homeschool students. The applications may be picked up at the Nelson County Extension Office or any local high school. There will be two (2) $1,000 scholarships to Nelson County graduating seniors who are planning to pursue a degree or career in (trades) horticultural/agricultural or related field. The application must be returned with all supporting documentations to the Nelson County Extension Office by 4 p.m. on the third Friday in April. Bethany Haven Sunday Sessions
Bethany Haven presents the 2nd Annual Sunday Sessions Concert Series. All concerts will be held at The Chapel in Spalding Hall. The Foreign Landers will be featured on May 21. The Arcadian Wild will perform on July 23, and on Sept. 24, Amy Lou will be featured. Social Hour will begin at 4 pm with the concerts beginning at 5 pm. Tickets are $100 per set and includes all four concerts. New Hope canoe float
New Hope Community Park will have a canoe float noon June 10 at the Rolling Fork River. Begin at Thompsons’s Cabin and end at the boat dock. Entrance fee is $10 for adults. Everyone is welcome and must have a life jacket per game warden. All proceeds go to the maintenance of the community center and grounds. The purpose of the Verna Richardson Memorial Scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to a student who desires to further his or her education in either Family & Consumer Science, Agriculture, or a related field while attending an in-state college or technical school. ELIGIBILITY: Those who may apply for a Verna Richardson Memorial Scholarship must be a resident of Nelson County, Graduating from an accredited high school in Nelson County; or Presently attending in state college or technical school; or Completed Kentucky home-schooling requirements.
2023 Maryland to Kentucky and Beyond Inc. reunion
The 2023 Maryland to Kentucky and Beyond Inc. reunion is a go after cancelling for several years due to covid. It is scheduled for June 9-10 at Samuels Hall in the Nelson County Fairgrounds in Bardstown. Registration, vendors and genealogy sharing will be on Friday, June 9. On Saturday, June 10, sessions on Kentucky history and archival records, along with genealogy sharing, vendors and evening banquet. The first MD2KY reunion in 1990 at Nazareth was an opportunity for descendants of the Maryland to Kentucky pioneers to meet and share family history information.
