Homestanding Campbellsville spoiled the head coaching debut of Bardstown’s Shon Young on a frigid, windy Monday evening.
The Eagles scored eight runs in the first three innings to pull away for a 14-6 victory over the Tigers in the season opener for both teams.
Bardstown (0-1) led 1-0 after the first inning, but Campbellsville (1-0) scored five times in the second to take the lead. The Tigers pulled within 5-3 in the top of the third, but the Eagles started pulling away by scoring three more runs in their half of the third.
Bardstown finished the day with five base hits, while Campbellsville had 13.

The Tigers host 5th Region rival Taylor County at 6 p.m. Thursday and Marion County at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Spencer County 12, Thomas Nelson 1The homestanding Generals (0-1) were held to two hits in a season-opening loss to the Bears on Monday evening in Coach Ty Ethington’s debut.
Aiden Buzick and Kaden Roller each had a single for Thomas Nelson, while Roller driving in Buzick on his base hit.
The Generals had a rough go of it all game, striking out 14 times.
Ethan Rich took the loss, allowing four hits, four walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts over four innings.
Thomas Nelson, which played at region foe North Hardin on Tuesday, plays at Butler at 6 p.m. Thursday, at Danville at 6 p.m. Friday and hosts Bullitt Central at noon Saturday.

The homestanding Hawks walked it off Monday night, getting a two-run triple from Brooklynn Skaggs to win it in the bottom of the seventh.
Thomas Nelson (0-1) finished with 10 hits. Jilian Minter led the way by going 3 for 5 with two doubles and three runs, while Emma O’Daniel was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs.
Danielle Chounard had two singles and two RBIs, and Emily Sanders added two singles, two runs and an RBI.
O’Daniel took the loss, striking out eight and giving up nine hits and two earned runs over six innings.
The Generals return to action Saturday, when they take on Elizabethtown in the Bethlehem Triangle.
