LaRue County Extension Leadership and Awards Banquet

The annual LaRue County Extension Leadership and Awards Banquet will be held Monday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. There will be a meal served with a charge of $10.00 per person that can be paid at the door. The banquet will feature speakers Melissa Bond, UK Arts Extension Program Leader, and Beka Burton, Economic Development Specialist, as they present the results of our Community Assessment and First Impressions program. Save a Life, Give Blood

Blood Drive, January 19 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at United Way of Central KY, located at 6045 N. Main Street in Elizabethtown; the LaRue County Public Library from 1 to 6 p.m., Hodgenville; Woman’s Club on Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

RECYCLING

The Renaissance Recycling Center in Hodgenville will be accepting recycling every Tuesday for specific items only. The recycling center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at 209 E. Water Street in Hodgenville, KY. Contact Jill Gray at 270-234-6619 with any questions about what items will be accepted or for business pickup. Jan. 17 — Paper Products; Jan.24 — Metals and glass.

Home Economics — Join Extension Family and Consumer Science Agent Marla Stillwell at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11 for Home Economics.

Homing Pigeons — DeWayne Gibson will be sharing information about his homing pigeons at 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 12.

Reading with a Ranger — Join a Ranger from the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace for the month’s Storytime and Build a Beaver activity at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 12.

Snow Storytime — 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 12.

Winnie the Pooh Storytime — 11 a.m. on Monday, January 16 and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18.

National Popcorn Day — Free popcorn will be available all day on Friday, January 19 in honor of National Popcorn Day.

Pizza Pan Snowman — Larinda DeSpain will be teaching a pizza pan snowman class for teens and adults at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 20. Class size limit of 12, call to reserve a seat.

LaRue County Genealogy Society — Beverly Heath and Sharon Viers Williams with the LaRue County Genealogy Society will be explaining how to start researching family history at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24

Lego Club — 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24.

FOOD PANTRIES

LaRue County Community Action has a giveaway the third Wednesday of each month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the LaRue County Parks & Recreation building in Hodgenville.

The Hope Food Pantry at Hodgenville United Methodist Church will have a giveaway on Monday, January 16 at 4 p.m. If help is needed before then, please call the church at 270-358-3028.

The Shepherd’s Pie Food Pantry, hosted by the Magnolia Cumberland Presbyterian Church, has a giveaway at 3 p.m. every Tuesday.

MEETINGS

Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting

A Parkinson’s Support Group meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 18 at the Nelson County Public Library, located at 201 Cathedral Manor, Bardstown. John Johanboeke from Stan Sims Law will be speaking about elder law, including estate planning, tax laws, wills, power of attorney and more.
