LaRue County School employees will be receiving a 2% salary increase, approved by the LaRue County Board of Education at their May monthly meeting. With a motion made by Dawn Conner and a second by Ashley Reding, the increase will take effect on July 1, 2023.
“We’re not gaining any ground, because everybody else is going to give the same raise, but we’re also not going to lose ground in the pay scale that we’re already behind in many areas,” Chairman Joanna Hinton said.
With the end of the current school year just a few days away, preparation for the 2023-2024 school year are underway. A contract for updates in the LaRue County Middle School gymnasium and the LaRue County High School auditorium was awarded to BCD, Incorporated, out of Bardstown, in the amount of $631,000. Although over budget by just over $32,000, the current bidding market is seeing escalation regarding material costs due to production shortages and uncertain delivery lead times. Construction is expected to be finished over the summer.
A bid for the installation of a Ductless Min-Split HVAC System at the Board of Education was also awarded to Phelps Heating & Cooling, Inc.
The board moved to approve many contracts and agreements this month, including those for special needs students, physical therapy services, mental health counseling and the medical satellite clinic.
Awards and recognitions were also made during the meeting. Student recognitions include Nathaniel Faulkner, Logan Hawkins, Brooke Koenig, Trinity Leasor, Baines Turner and Addison White for acceptance into the 2023 Governor’s Scholars Program; Bailey Litton for acceptance into the 2023 Governor’s School for the Arts; Emily Detre and Abby Goodin for acceptance into the Gatton Academy for Mathematics & Science; Jade Clifford as STLP 23 State Competition Winner; Rhys Keylock, Preston Burton, Jade Clifford, Hayden Lee, Baines Turner, Caleb Hack and Travis Schultz as STLP 23 State Competition Finalists; and Brock Gross and Blakyn James as members of the Nolin RECC Washington Youth Tour.
Faculty recognitions include Brandon Barlow, Savannah Boone, Katie Cecil, Alex Patterson, Monica Spencer, Joe Tucker and Nikki Waldeck as members of the Aspiring School Leaders and Patti DeVary, Phil Fulkerson, Chris Price, Rhonda Simpson, Alan Vass, Billie Webb and Crystal Wilkerson as LaRue County School District Retirees.
The next meeting of the LaRue County Board of Education will be held at 6 p.m. on June 19 at the LaRue County High School.
