On March 1, engineers completed a thorough inspection of the bridge on KY 289, which has been closed due to vehicle impact.
“Load and structure analysis were made available to KYTC District 4 personnel after a thorough inspection process on the bridge,” said Chris Jesse with KYTC District 4. “Given the damage caused and typical usage conditions, reopening the structure to traffic is not possible and the road will remain closed long-term due to safety concerns.”
Jesse said a repair estimate is in the process, but added that “is likely to reach a level where full replacement is most cost effective.”
“In either scenario, it is likely funding and other complications will push any construction well into next year,” Jesse said. “A more defined timeline will be announced as repair estimates are complete and replacement decisions are made.”
A signed detour will remain in place along KY 412 on the south side of the bridge, and access will remain available to US 68 on the north side of the bridge.
